Musical Biography. Character soundtracks.

Postby Maurdakar on Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:04 pm

One can see and speak to a character to get a good feel of them, and after prolonged interactions between two characters you get a clear picture of the person this player is trying to play. Now correct me if I am wrong but various characters I have encountered are as follows; Eupraxia is for example, an airhead, capable of focusing for short amounts of time, her true strengths lie in accepting the world as it is and dissmissing or laughing away its problems. Teesah is the mother figure head of the guild, careful to never make sudden or rash decisions and always willing to listen to everyones side of a story before making a decision. Maurkakar is violent and unpredictable, usually harsh and rash to those around him due to his unhappy life, and over protective of those he allows to get close to himself. Moonjade is a zealot, but a sane zealot, always standing by her beliefs and ideals no matter the cost, and only letting them slide if she sees a way to ultimatly advance them in future. Aiyan is controlling and pompous but he is deserving of most of his self proclaimed titles, he seems split between two ideals of "taking care of his own, and upholding "the greater good."

There are other ways to understand a character almost completely in a short amount of time, and one of these ways (besides reading thier biographies) is too listen to the music which thier players feel represent them.

These will be character soundtracks.

Now unfortunatly we will have to impose some rules upon this process, as we do not have a limitless amount of time to listen to the dozens of songs which each of you I feel would (justly) bring forth to portray your character. So we will follow a loose format, which I hope all of you understand exists only so that we may move on from one character and listen too all the tracks the adventurers in Sanctum represent.

1) You must explain why a track fits in with your chraracter (try and be brief), maybe mention a date place and time, this song would have been playing behind your character and why.

2) We shall include 3 main tracks, the first wil be your characters Main Theme one which would be playing while they adventure. The second will be your characters Battle Track one which would play when they enter conflict (as all warcraft characters do). Lastly you will have an At Ease track one which will play while your character is hanging out, walking arond a city, ect.

3) You get two additional tracks to represent your character in any way you feel fit, purly for suggestive purposes I reccomend:
a) A pivotal moment soundtrack, when your chracters life has been changed by an event (such as being orphaned, or discovering thier magical potential for the first time). Be sure to put this in perespective.
b) Any additional themes you want too add to the main three, such as a second track for battle.
c) A class specific track, such as sneaking track for a rogue (the Jaws theme?), a hunting track for a hunter, a mage studying or discovering magick may listen to classical, and of course Death Knights would stuff thier tracks full of metal.
b) A racial specific theme, represnting the race or culture you feel your character grew up in.

4)Also please post what you feel would make a good GUILD themesong purly for fun.

5) The song can be anything, but you need a link to it (mabey youtube). Try and respect other peoples tolerance for swearing, and please give credit to where the song comes from.

6) Finally NEVER listen to HALF a song, if your going to listen to music listen to it in its entirety, some songs change drastically many times in thier course. Please keep comments about other peoples songs polite.

Allow me to Demonstrate.

Maurkakar grew up among the tribal broken on Draenor (outlands) and as such he has a more animistic approach to shamanism. To reflect this his tracks are mostly african tribal beats.

Maurkakars main adventuring theme comes from Far Cry 2s ost and here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roqhHrN3wV8
It reflects his basic perception of the world, as a simple, savage, and beautiful place. Kakar also has personal ties to this video game I feel, as I built his character as though he were an african child soldier thrust into a civilized world (very basically).

Kakar continues his tribal sound with his battle track taken from Borderlands OST. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ8lkbKmFPk
Fighting from a young age Kakar finds emotions in battle, anxiety, that rush of adrenaline, the sound of pain. Growing up in a swamp surrounded by demons he has become addicted to the feeling of a fight, he hates it and he needs it. This song I feel represents the stress he feels when pitted against the monsterous masses of the horde.

When he is at rest or feeling at peace, mostly when he is (was) with his wife. Kakars mood brightens signifigantly and under Illionas scrutiny he acts more polite than he usually feels neccassary, there is always however a certain savage straight forwardness to his demeanor.
Again from Far Cry 2s ost we get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMR0-zER ... re=related
This song is sung as you finally help the refugees of a wartorn country move to a safer place at the end of Far Cry 2, it could have been a song which would have accompanied Kakar early in his life if things had turned out better.

My first optional song is actually one for my druid Maurdakar (its louder than the previous). This is Dakars battle music, the FAIRY WALTZ from Folklores ost.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhHJh1yi ... re=related
Dakar never takes anything seriously, not even life and death, always looking for mischief and trouble he *waltzs* (dances in tree form) through battle, ressurecting and healing his allies. I actually would play this song when pvping on Dakar during the burning crusade.

Lastly I feel Mirrors Edge ost, the main theme could do Invictus Sanctum justice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzy0hLXtWSA
I know all of these are video game soundtracks, but I am a HUGE proponent of the VIDEO GAMES are art movement. As such I have listend to alot of game composed music, and hopefully have given you thought to the whole games are art matter.

P.S. Lets try to keep the final fantasy tracks to minimum ;)

Interesting idea, I'm already thinking. But question, how do we identify tracks? I could say "Westfall music" for example, and be referring to the only music I've ever heard play in Westfall, but I've heard this same music in the Barrens and along certain coastlines while swimming around (literally) the world. Or are we going by an official release of WoW music?

I think I'm the first after Maur! I tried to keep it to more traditional music, there's rap and shtuff that I find fits for battle and all, but I think only the forsaken may dabble in that :P.. And of course there are so many more good songs out there, but there's a limit ^.^ So here goes.

The Blood Of Cu Chulainn
http://www.youtube.com/watch#playnext=1&playnext_from=TL&videos=BILsGK9Yxys&v=2hClyvvZh3w
Is the song I would pick for Adorath's adventures. I hear it very clearly as he looks out over Ashenvale, or while he's running through Feralas. A very sweeping song, energetic and light hearted as I think Adorath is. And it has it's moments, where I can see him pricking his ears and dashing off after some prey or hiding from some marauding orcs.

Dark Lord Don Dorcha and Warlords
http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=WZCjgPIvBU8&feature=related
Following the Celtic theme, this song comes to mind entering battle of any sorts. Adorath fights with a Rhythm, moving swiftly to victory or defeat and this song certainly has it.

A Stor mo Chroi
http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=oARdc1EqhWE&feature=related
By Dervish, would fall under Adorath's relaxing song. When Adorath comes to rest he loses some of his lightheartedness and becomes more reflective. Mostly when he is alone or accompanied by a few trusted companions. Whether it is for ages past, his lost family, kalimdor, or a love unrealized, it is sometimes hard to tell.

An alternative to this last song (and one of my extras) would be for when he is with good friends in a tavern or else where, prancing about with a female companion, just generally having a good time.
Súil Ghorm by Altan
http://www.youtube.com/watch#playnext=1&playnext_from=TL&videos=Xa5i01zl0Ac&v=kpKkBe8kZ00

And the 'Pivotal moment' falls to http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=d5p_U8J0iRQ&feature=related with the death of Malorne, the defeat of Cenarius quite a feeling of despair, and yet, there is salvation as Adorath is rescued and the tide of battle shifts. Until the creation of Death Wing and the Sundering of the world.

Karma for being the first Adorath!
Nice theme you have going, it is quite clear someone is very proud of thier druidic, or more likely, Irish roots!
I had to listen to Dark Lord Don Dorcha and Warlords because I always get mesmerized by the footwork in Riverdance, if I was ever to be placed under hpnotic suggestion it would take a Riverdancer, not a spinning hypno wheel. Pivotal moment was very touching, I absolutly adore christian monk chants or songs(forgetting the actual name of this style), to convey loss or set a solemn mood.

But most of all THANK you for a link to the heart of some good classical Irish tunes on youtube.

Well here's Keline's soundtrack.

Extra: Love & Relationship: I have two for this catagorey. It deals with how much Keline loves Liandor, her one true love that she has waited her whole life for. These songs express the hard times, the good times, and everything else about love. I hear these everytime when Herthan's on Liandor and I'm on Keline and we're RP'ing as the two.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygZDatYZ2nU (Shania Twain - Forever and for Always)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gIXtVWzMUs (Jewel - Love is a Garden)

Main Soundtrack: Battle Scenes: I have one for this that I just found. It fits so well for every single battle Keline enters. Every battle she enters is exciting for her because it makes her feel proud. This song is always exciting. Enjoy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCGD80_nFSM (Orianthi - Highly Strung)

Main Soundtrack: Main Theme: Everywhere Keline's at outside of battling and relaxing, this song plays in my head. She's always trying to find her strength, trying to prove to everyone she's more than just a woman. She's a superwoman and is going to risk her life for others by helping and such.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2K_F5h1poo (Alicia Keys - Superwoman)

Main Soundtrack: At Ease: I have two for this one. One is by Hayley Westenra. Everytime Keline enjoys the peace and quiet at Thunder Falls, the waterfalls in Stranglethorn and other places, I hear her song play. The other one, I hear as well by Loreena McKennitt (SP? Dunno.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B7sH5QLyXY (Loreena McKennitt - Mummers Dance)

Class Specific: To come soon
Race Specific: To Come Soon.

Postby Kirana on Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:45 am

Okay, I feel really silly doing this, but I'm going to anyhow.

So, this is just an extra one, that I like. It's "Happy Go Lucky", by Steps. Now, all my life, I've had people, try to put me down. They just never gave up. So, for all of those, who tried to put me down, this song is for you! Now, I'm not saying, that anyone is Invictus Sanctum, as tried to put me down. In fact, you guys have been the best! Now, this song, may be a bit melancholy, but I still think it suits Kirana well. In real life, this song suits me, extremely well. The primary reason why I say that is because, I keep on having to fool myself, into thinking, that my life is worth living. Now, that may just be my depression talking, but I'm not so sure, that it is. I've never really had, a positive outlook on life. I need to work on that. So here is, "Happy Go Lucky", by Steps. Now, I can't seem to find, a music video with the lyrics, so you'll just have to deal with this one. I'm sorry. I looked for one, but I can't find one at, this moment, so I'm not going to stress about it. If I happen, to find one later, then I'll edit this post, and paste it here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alIdl5zM ... PL&index=9

So this is Kirana's main theme. "SuperGirl", by Krystal Harris. Now, the reason why I picked this song, for Kirana's main theme, is because, some who meet her, seem to think, that she's weak. Kirana is anything but weak. Sure, she may not be as strong, as some of the other, guild members, but she doesn't give give up. No matter, what the odds may be. So, to sum it up...Never underestimate Kirana, because if you do, you may be in for a shock. So without any farther delay, I present to you, "SuperGirl", by Krystal Harris. Now, I'm hoping that everyone will be able to understand the lyrics, in this music video, but if not, there is another link, posted under the one above, that shows the lyrics, in the music video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E0sawMArmI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZHMOZT9xYU

So, this Kirana's battle theme. So, this song is “Anthem”, by Superchick. I just really like this song. It's uplifting to me, in a way. Now, I hope this song passes on the message, I want it to. That message would be, never mess with me. If you do mess with me or my friends, you will pay for it. Yes, I have a violent streak. I've had to defend myself, all my life, so that's part of the reason, who I have a bit of a violent streak to me. Now I would much rather be passive then aggressive, but sometimes, a girl has to do, what a girl has to do. So sue me, I've got a temper sometimes. So, here is the song. Now, I'm hoping that everyone will be able to understand the lyrics, in this music video, but if not, there is another link, posted under the one above, that shows the lyrics, in the music video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrDA5-uD ... re=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mcxYLzSCEE

So, this is Kirana's theme, for when she's just hanging around. This is “Fly”, by Hilary Duff. Now the reason why I chose this song, is because, you can try time and time again, but sometimes, you need a break. Now, only you know when you need a break. So, in my opinion this song fits, Kirana very well. So, here is the song. So, here is the song. Now, I'm hoping that everyone will be able to understand the lyrics, in this music video, but if not, there is another link, posted under the one above, that shows the lyrics, in the music video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOQi5bgWYQo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skqUOfEahFM

So, this is Kirana's race theme song. It's “Eradicate and Evolve,” by Eminence Symphony Orchestra It's from The Music of Blizzard Entertainment, volume 2, Echoes of War. Now the primary reason, why I chose this as Kirana's race theme song, is it portrays a message and that message is...Either evolve or die off. This has been happening, sense the first lifeforms inhabited Earth. They either had to evolve or die. So, in my opinion, this song, fits her perfectly. If she hadn't adapted to living on Azeroth, then she would have died out. The world we live on, is changing each and every day. We may not notice the changes, but they happen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Cgi_j0AlQ

Now, this is Kirana's class song. It's “Children of the Worldstone”, by Eminence Symphony Orchestra It's from The Music of Blizzard Entertainment, volume 2, Echoes of War. Now the primary reason why I chose this is because, we all came from somewhere. Whether we are human or animal, we all came from somewhere. That somewhere is our mothers. So, the title of this song, fit's what I typed above, very well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Cgi_j0AlQ

Now, this next one, is what I think, would represent the guild. Now, maybe I'm being a bit biased here, by choosing this song, but I don't really care. So, here is my choice. “Get off my back”, from the movie Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron. Now, I can't help, but think, this is what runs through the horses and ponies minds at my work sometimes. I mean, how would you like it, if you had a person on you, who was just starting to learn how to ride. Now, I've seen new riders, just starting out, and they can be extremely rough on their mounts. I mean, having a saddle and a bit, put on you, is enough, but having a rider on you, who doesn't know, the first thing about how to ride a horse or pony, and is pulling on the reins, which is connected to the bit, which is in their mouths, and bouncing up and down in the saddle, which is on their back. It's a miracle, these horses and ponies put with what they do. If I were one of them, I'd give the person three chances, to get it right, and if they still couldn't get it right after the third time, then screw them. They would be on the ground within a matter of a few seconds. Now, I've been thrown off horses and ponies more then once, and it can result in serious injuries and sometimes death. Now, every single time, I've been thrown off, it's been my fault. I either let my guard down, or I gave the horse or pony I was riding the wrong signal, and they got confused. I don't blame them, for any injuries that I've sustained so far. I'm still walking, and for that I'm very thankful. I'm going to keep riding them, even if I die from it. Well, if I'm dead, then I can't ride anymore. So, here's hoping that won't happen anytime soon. Anyhow, sorry for deviating from the original topic. I just felt, that I had to type that.

For the life of me i can't find a song that i can truly say is Ot battle theme. She never goes looking for a fight and rp wise her abilities as a warlock are a curse from her childhood, so she doesn't have complete control of them. So when she does get into a fight, its usually a fight for her life and with some luck she survives.

Anyhow

This, however is her main theme song :
Tsumi - Full Metal Alchemist
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-XnwLljZdQ&feature=related

When i heard this it just felt perfect, the opening sounds kinda evil and when you think warlock thats the first thing that comes to mind, but when you get to know her, thats when you see she does what she does for the greater good at a great personal cost.
I'll update this when i can find other songs / time.
Are warlocks evil?
"I kill those who would harm me, my friends, and my people. Is that evil? No, for they are trying to do evil first. I act only in self-defense. Am I evil? No. I simply am. If you try to harm me or mine, I will do my best to kill you." -nenicirene

Re: Musical Biography. Character soundtracks.

Postby Kirana on Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:09 am

Okay...I had fun doing a musical biography for Kirana, so I'm doing one for Seiena as well. So, I hope you guys like it.

(Love and Relationship) This first song is a extra one. This is “Missing,” by Evanescence. I like this song because sense Seiena is a Death Knight, that means she once was living and had a family. She loved her family like any others, in her life. In life she was a very caring person, and she is the same way in death. She didn't choose to become a Death Knight. Now, that she has been re-born as a Death Knight, she feels as if something is missing. When she was living, she knew that she was worth something. Now that she is dead, that is no longer the case. Now, some beings think that she is better of being dead. So, when she learned of this, she felt as if she was insignificant. Now, some of those who knew her in life, forgot what she was like, when she was living. As a result, they refuse to recognize her as a human. They consider her an alien, and they no longer have any respect for her. To them, she is like a sacrifice, so that they may keep on living, a life. We all live lives, now whether we choose to accept our lives the way they are, or try to lie to ourselves and others, to try to convince ourselves that our lives aren't that bad, that's totally up to you. In part she feels that she has let her family down, and asks for forgiveness. If you listen to the lyrics in this song, you will see that it fits, what I've typed above.

Here is the link to “Missing,” without the lyrics.

Here is the link to “Missing,” with the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgjMViO9kBM

So, this is Seiena's main theme. This is “Trouble,” by Pink. Every time I listen to this song, I just have to think that this song suits me in real life. I'm getting into trouble, even when I don't mean to. I mean...I seem to have knack for getting into all sorts of trouble. Anything from injuring myself, to just doing something, extremely stupid. For example, a few years back, I broke my right arm. Now, when I first broke it, I felt no pain. I stood up and moved it, and I still felt no pain. Now, my arm was hanging at a odd angle, so I felt up and down my arm, until I finally hit, the place where I had broken it. Now that set off a whole bunch of pain. I started screaming in agony. My dad, was down in Florida, visiting his dad, at the time, that I broke my right arm. I was terrified, and I refused to travel in a ambulance, but I still needed to get to the emergency room. So my mom and grandma, made a makeshift sling from a blanket and stabilized my right arm with it, and then rushed me to the emergency room. By the time I finally got admitted to see a doctor, it had been about 7 hours sense I had broken my arm. So I went for 7 hours without any pain killers, with nothing but a makeshift sling around my broken arm. I seem to have a extremely high tolerance for pain.

Now, as for doing something extremely stupid, I locked myself out of my apartment a few months back. Dilanae, who is my boyfriend in real life, was coming over to my house. So...I was busy playing WOW, and he called to let me know that he was outside, waiting for me. Now...I can be rather absent minded at times. So, I yanked on my shoes, and grabbed a few things. One thing I forgot to grab and it happened to be the most important thing. I forgot to grab my keys. Opps! I rushed downstairs and went outside with Dilanae, and felt for my keys around my neck. I didn't feel them, so I looked down and started panicking. It was then that I realized, that in my haste to get to Dilanae, that I had left my keys sitting on my computer desk. Now the leasing office had already closed for the day, so I couldn't get a spare key to open the door to my apartment complex, and I didn't want to call the emergency number , so that they could let me back in. If I had called them, then they would have charged me $50.00, just to get me back in my apartment. So, when I notified Dilanae of this, he offered to let me spend the night at his house, and that's exactly what I did. I slept on his couch covered with a bath towel, to try to stay warm. I woke up at 7am the next morning and walked to the leasing office, and got a spare key to get back into my apartment. So, here is “Trouble,” by Pink.

Here is the link to “Trouble,” without the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10CVmyYNcZk

Here is the link to “Trouble," with the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRz5XwSwY2w

So, this next one is Seiena's battle theme. This is “U Better Fear Me,” by Deleted. Now, anyone who gets on my bad side, is in for trouble. I'm normally a fairly passive person in life. I don't like war, or fighting, or poverty, or anything like that. Keep in mind though, if you do get on my bad side, get ready for a world of trouble. Dilanae can attest to this. Now anyone who says, that I can't do something, I'm just going to ignore them, because I don't believe in letting other people tell me what I can and can't do. If they choose to keep on bothering me, then they are in for trouble. I will stand up for myself by any means necessary. So if people want to help me, that's great, but if they want to get in my way, they better be ready for a world of trouble.

Here is the link to “U Better Fear Me,” by Deleted, without the lyrics.

Here is the link to “U Better Fear Me,” by Deleted, with the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CfTMrIJuwE

Now this one is Seiena's theme for when she's just hanging around. This is “Split Personality,” by Pink. Now the reason why I chose this song, is because in real life, I feel like I have two different personalties. One of them is social, and the other one distrusts people. So, in real life I am one girl, but I have two different personalties trying to co-exist within one body. Now this may sound a bit odd, to some of you, but that's the way I feel. So here is “Split Personality,” by Pink.

(Pivotal Moment) So, this one is “The Way I Was,” by Makeshift Romeo. Now this is Seiena's song for the pivotal moment in her life, when she is turned into a Death Knight. Now some people describe death as the eternal sleep. For once you are dead, you are gone from this world, never to wake again. Now when Seiena, was killed, and brought back as a Death Knight, she was lost. That's partially how Arthas was able to take control of her so easily. The way she became a Death Knight was so traumatic that there is no way to reverse any of the damage, that has been done. They damage may be covered up, but it can never be undone. Now, you can't turn the hands of time. She has been scared for life. She once hoped that she could return the world of the living, but as time passed, she has come to realize that she can't. For once you're dead, there is no return. So here is “The Way I Was,” by Makeshift Romeo. Now I can't find a link to this song, with the lyrics, so I'm not going to worry about it. If I happen to find one later then I'll edit this post and paste the link.

Now this final one is a song, that I think would suit Invictus Sanctum. This is “Humble Neighbors,” by Pink. Now everyone in Invictus Sanctum comes from different walks of life. I think the lyrics in this song, sums that up. So here is “Humble Neighbors,” by Pink.

oooh, i do so love these kinds of things. i have a playlist for every character i play. -giggle- however, it's really hard to just have 5, but..i'll do my best.
--warning, some of these songs may be a little long--

main theme- excess, by tricky [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyp8mNpkNuc ]
it's a song about life, and everything that is randomly bouncing around in nia's head, and her own beliefs, no matter how simple they are.

battle theme- in keeping secrets of silent earth 3, by coheed and cambria [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp_Now6W ... re=related ]
ah, now this is an interesting one. all naoki has ever known is battle. however, she's lost sight of what exactly to fight for, and for whom. through every war and conflict, she's had her share of bloodshed, with only to seek someone to tell her 'well done.', instead of just sending her off to another battle, to take more lives and kill more of her own people. this song represents how she sees the world now, in flames, and the youngest generation of her troops not understanding fully what they fight for.

at ease theme- lux aeterna, summer overture by clint mansell [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7vF8zGeljA ]
this is a very somber peace, but i can see nia riding her saber through the woods with this song playing. if she's not fighting, or drinking herself to death, she's very reflective, and often melancholy. i really felt like, through the rise and fall of the music, the rise and fall of her memories played.

separate track one- ain't no rest for the wicked, by cage the elephant [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U631FGnXDXY&feature=fvst ]
kind of a quintessential track for nia in her days of a mercenary, or her life in the fast lane. she did what she had to do, and didn't care, so long as she had her money and her ale.

separate track two- sky is over, by serj tankian [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY9kQcWLvEM ]
for nia's pivotal moment, this is at the loss of her husband, grim'un. just before the citadel was opened, she was put on an undercover mission. she left during the night, leaving a letter of love eternal to him. as a sin'dorei, she learned what she could, and adapted to the life. however, in a battle over the wintergrasp fortress, she faced him. having no idea that it was her, grim'un struck her down, only for him to fall beside her at the hands of a forsaken. she woke in the infirmary of dalaran, but couldn't find him. she never found him again.

i probably did this wrong, but...eh. most of the time, the songs speak for themselves. :D

I'm not good at this, Cambro's music tends to be...whatever is playing in whatever zone he is in. :-\
"Hide not your talents.
They for use were made.
What's a sundial in the shade."
-- Benjamin Franklin

To be, or not to be a warrior, -- that is the question: --
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous nerfs,
Or to take arms or fury against a sea of death knights,
And by opposing end them?
--Hamlet

Just give it a try Cam. You can do it! Just think about what music suits Cambro and what he may be doing at that time. :D
